Chemical and Refinery Employee Overtime and Back Wages
Shell Oil Company and Motiva Enterprises LLC, which is partially owned by Shell and markets Shell gasoline and other products, paid $4.5 million in overtime and back wages to 2,677 current and former chemical and refinery employees. The Department of Labor (DOL) investigated eight Shell and Motiva facilities in Alabama, California, Louisiana, Texas, and Washington and found that the companies violated Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions by not paying workers for the time spent at mandatory pre-shift meetings and failing to record the time spent at these meetings.
