Puerto Rico v. Shell Oil Co., et al. (MTBE Groundwater Contamination)

Puerto Rico sued dozens of companies, including Shell, Chevron, and ExxonMobil, for damages related to the release of the gasoline additive methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) from gas stations into potable water sources. In May 2021, ExxonMobil agreed to pay $25 million to settle the case.
