Hanford Whistleblower Reinstatement
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) ordered URS Corporation-led joint venture Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) to reinstate a worker who the agency determined had been fired in retaliation for raising safety concerns at the Hanford nuclear facility. OSHA also ordered WRPS to pay the employee $220,329 in back wages, fees, and damages. The media identified the worker as Shelly Doss, an environmental specialist at WRPS who was fired in October 2011 after she notified her supervisors about nuclear and environmental safety permit and record-keeping violations. In 2015, Doss and WRPS settled the lawsuit under undisclosed terms.
