Wisconsin Ethanol Plant Air Pollution Violations

Valero Renewables Fuels Company, LLC agreed to pay $17,000 in forfeitures and statutory surcharges to settle an air pollution lawsuit filed by the state of Wisconsin. According to the state, Valero Renewable Fuels’ ethanol plant near Jefferson exceeded air pollution limits from February through June of 2010. (Valero Energy had acquired the plant from Renew Energy and began operating it in early February 2010. According to the Attorney General, when the company acquired the plant, it already had significant compliance issues and was operating in violation of its permit.)
