Material Handling and Ergonomic Program Deficiencies at Oak Ridge National Lab
The Department of Energy (DOE) issued a Preliminary Notice of Violation (PNOV) to UT-Battelle for violations of DOE worker safety and health requirements. The violations concerned a series of events between June 2013 and June 2014 that resulted in serious injury to two workers at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The PNOV cited three Severity Level I violations and one Severity Level II violation in the areas of management responsibilities, hazard identification and assessment, hazard prevention and abatement, and manual material handling limits and training and information. DOE proposed civil penalty of $131,250.
