Marburger, et al. v. XTO Energy (Breach of Gas Leases)

A group of natural gas royalty owners in Western Pennsylvania accused Exxon Mobil subsidiary XTO Energy of violating their gas leases by inappropriately deducting expenses from royalty checks. The plaintiffs claimed that XTO Energy wrongly withheld royalties based on improper deductions of post-production expenses. The plaintiffs signed gas leases in 2007 with Phillips Production Company, which was acquired by Exxon Mobil in 2011. In March 2018, XTO Energy settled the lawsuit for $11 million.
