Providing Inaccurate Information to Arizona Medicare Customers
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) fined Health Net of Arizona $349,075 for not providing clear and accurate information to nearly 14,000 Medicare customers in Arizona during the open enrollment period in 2014, and then not issuing a correction until more than one month after open enrollment started. Health Net initially told 4,865 Medicare customers that its plan did not increase patient costs for the first five days of inpatient hospital stays when the cost actually increased by $25 per day. Health Net also incorrectly told 9,098 customers that its network included preferred cost-sharing pharmacies.
