2010 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill – Pointe-au-Chien Tribe Lawsuit

The Pointe-au-Chien Indian tribe sued BP, Transocean, and Halliburton for damages to tribal lands and resources caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010. The plaintiffs claim the spill directly impacted tribal cemeteries, sacred sites, Indian mounds, archaeological sites, village sites, shell middens, and fisheries. The plaintiffs also accuse BP of breaching an agreement to produce reports on confidential cultural information and historic sites tribe members shared with the company that would have helped the tribe achieve federal recognition.
