Unauthorized Handling and Disposal of Classified Materials

The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) issued a Preliminary Notice of Violation (PNOV) to Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Y-12, LLC for unauthorized handling and disposition of classified materials at the Y-12 National Security Complex. In June 2014, a B&W Y-12 employee discovered in an unclassified waste bag approximately 20 documents that were either marked as classified or appeared to contain sensitive information but had no classification markings. B&W Y-12 conducted a review at the site that found additional unclassified waste bags containing similar classified information. NNSA found that B&W Y-12 violated multiple classified information security requirements but did not impose a civil penalty.
