Black v. Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (Whistleblower Retaliation)
Sandra Black claimed Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) fired her for cooperating with a federal investigation into the treatment of whistleblowers at the Savannah River Site and other nuclear facilities. She also claimed her supervisors had interfered with her work at SRNS, which involved investigating employee complaints about safety and other issues. In February 2017, the Department of Energy Office of Hearings and Appeals (OHA) determined there was a sufficient basis to conclude that SRNS subjected Black to illegal reprisal and ordered SRNS to reinstate her to the same or comparable position and pay her $371,776 in damages (including back pay and employment benefits), costs, and expenses.
