Morgan-Mapp v. The GEO Group (Wrongful Death)

The estate of Cassandra Morgan filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the George W. Hill Correctional Facility in Thornton, Pennsylvania, operated by The GEO Group. Morgan, who had a long history of schizophrenia and also suffered from a serious thyroid condition, was brought to the prison in February 2006. The lawsuit alleged that the prison medical staff failed to adequately evaluate and treat her, causing her to go into a hypothyroid-related coma from which she never regained consciousness. The parties reached a confidential, out-of-court settlement in October 2008.
