Leavenworth Detention Center Contract Audit
The Department of Justice Inspector General (DOJ IG) audited the U.S. Marshals Service’s contract with Corrections Corporation of America (later known as CoreCivic) to operate the Leavenworth Detention Center in Kansas. The IG found several areas of concern, including periodic understaffing at the facility—particularly during the period from October 2014 through September 2015—and weaknesses in CoreCivic’s contractually-required quality control program. The IG determined the U.S. Marshals Service did not provide sufficient oversight of CoreCivic’s performance.
