Hyatt v. The GEO Group (South Bay C.F. Assault)

Roy Hyatt was an inmate at the GEO Group-managed South Bay Correctional Facility in Florida when another inmate threw boiling water at him, causing Hyatt to sustain burns to approximately 30 percent of his body and lose the use of his right eye. Hyatt alleged the GEO Group was negligent for allowing inmates at the facility to have access to a microwave oven. A jury agreed with Hyatt and awarded him over $1.2 million in damages.
