Snead v. CoreCivic (Metro-Davidson County Jail Scabies Outbreak)
Current and former inmates at the Metro-Davidson County Detention Facility in Tennessee, operated by CoreCivic, allege they faced threats, retaliation, and denial of medical care relating to an outbreak of scabies at the facility in the winter and spring of 2017. They allege CoreCivic deliberately failed to adequately screen those entering its facility, respond to inmate requests for medical attention, treat those infested with the parasite, quarantine the infected individuals, or take any other precautions to prevent the spread of scabies outside the facility. They allege that guards placed inmates in solitary confinement or revoked their phone privileges as punishment for discussing or complaining about the outbreak.
