Safety Violations at Baton Rouge Refinery – November 2016 Explosion

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) fined Exxon Mobil $164,775 for safety lapses related to a November 2016 explosion at its Baton Rouge refinery that injured four workers. OSHA issued nine citations (eight of which were for “serious” violations), finding that Exxon’s safety procedures and training were lacking, equipment was not properly maintained, and inspections were not carried out within required time periods.
