Stanford University Toxic Pollution
Stanford University sued Hewlett-Packard for alleged toxic contamination of Stanford property in Palo Alto, California. The lawsuit, filed under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), alleges Hewlett-Packard Company and its corporate successors discharged polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and trichloroethylene (TCE) onto the property between 1970 and 2005, necessitating a cleanup that cost the university millions of dollars.
