June 2011 Pembroke Refinery Explosion and Fire
In October 2018, Valero Energy UK Limited pleaded guilty in Welsh court to health and safety charges brought by the U.K. Health and Safety Executive (HSE) relating to the June 2011 explosion and fire at the Pembroke Refinery, which resulted in the deaths of four people and serious injuries to a fifth. In June 2019, Valero was fined £5 million (US$6.4 million) and ordered to pay costs of £1 million (US$1.3 million).
