U.S. ex rel. Bonzani v. United Technologies (Fighter Jet Engine Production False Claims)
Former Pratt & Whitney engineer Peter Bonzani claims the company used an ineffective assembly process for fighter jet engines and manipulated test processes to pass inspection. Bonzani alleges that, from 2012 through 2015, the company used the wrong equipment to apply a sealant spray on F119 and F100 engines used on the F-15, F-16 and F-22 fighter jets, and that testing equipment was manipulated to give a positive result when determining whether engines were production-ready. The lawsuit alleges that, as a result of the “intentional and/or reckless conduct” of Pratt & Whitney and its parent company, United Technologies, the engines “are at risk for premature wear and possible catastrophic engine failures.”
