UC Davis-Old Campus Landfill Superfund Site Cleanup
The U.S. Department of Justice and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control filed a complaint and lodged a proposed consent decree pertaining to environmental soil, solid waste, and soil gas contamination at Operable Unit 2 of the Laboratory for Energy-Related Health Research/Old Campus Landfill Superfund Site at the University of California, Davis. The site includes landfills in which the university deposited hazardous substances, including radiological waste, from the 1940s to the 1980s. Pursuant to the consent decree, filed under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and related California laws, the University of California agreed to perform cleanup and reimburse federal and state oversight costs.
