Gruzalski et al. v. FedEx (Whistleblower Retaliation)
Three men who worked at FedEx’s Los Angeles International Airport facility alleged that, beginning in 2008 or 2009, the facility significantly reduced the amount of time that FedEx aircraft underwent repair and maintenance. They alleged that airplane mechanics and inspectors were pressured to cut corners and sign off on repairs that were never done. The plaintiffs claimed that when they voiced their concerns, management wrote them up, suspended them, demoted them, refused to promote them, terminated them, and threatened them with physical harm. In October 2018, a jury awarded the three plaintiffs a total of $8 million in damages, including $6.75 million in punitive damages.
