Sabetian v. Fluor et al. (Asbestos Exposure in Iran)
Houshang Sabetian alleged he developed testicular mesothelioma as a result of working at various Fluor-built oil refineries in Iran between approximately 1960 and 1979. He claimed Fluor used asbestos products, including asbestos pipe insulation, at the refineries without taking the necessary safety precautions. In March 2019, a California state jury found the negligence of Fluor Enterprises, Middle East Fluor, and the National Iranian Oil Co. ultimately caused Sabetian’s mesothelioma and awarded Sabetian and his wife $25 million in damages (the jury found the Fluor defendants were 80% responsible).
