Illinois Drug Pricing Lawsuit
Fifteen companies—including Aventis, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, and Pfizer—agreed to pay a total of $242 million to settle allegations they manipulated wholesale prices in the state of Illinois to increase their Medicaid reimbursements. The state alleged, beginning in the early 1990s, the companies fraudulently published inflated average wholesale price information to induce state Medicaid programs to increase their reimbursement amounts.
