Samimi v. GEO Group (Wrongful Death at Aurora Contract Detention Facility)

The American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado filed a lawsuit on behalf of the family of Kamyar Samimi alleging negligence leading to the wrongful death of Samimi at the GEO Group-managed Aurora Contract Detention Facility in December 2017. Samimi died while in custody, roughly two weeks after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested him and prepared to deport him to his native country of Iran for a 2005 drug conviction. According to the lawsuit, Samimi was taking doctor-prescribed methadone at the time and did not receive appropriate treatment for opioid withdrawal.
