DPP v. Esso Australia Party Ltd. (Occupational Health and Safety Violations)
In 1998 an explosion at the Longford, Australia gas processing plant owned by Esso, a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil, killed two and wounded eight. In July 2001, the Australian Supreme Court imposed $1 million in fines on Esso after the company was found guilty of 11 criminal charges brought under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1985.
