737 Max – Airline Settlements
Boeing reached settlements with airlines for financial damages caused by the worldwide grounding of 737 Max aircraft in March 2019. The grounding caused airlines to cancel thousands of flights and resulted in lost wages for pilots and flight attendants. Southwest Airlines settled with Boeing in December 2019—the terms of the deal were confidential, but Southwest announced it would contribute approximately $125 million to its employee profit-sharing plan as a result. In January 2020, American Airlines reached a deal and announced that employees would get approximately $30 million through its profit-sharing program.
