Rivera Martinez et al. v. GEO Group (Use of Excessive Force at Adelanto ICE Processing Center)
Eight Central American asylum-seekers alleged they were pepper-sprayed, physically abused, and held in solitary confinement at the Adelanto, California, ICE Processing Center as punishment for engaging in a hunger strike in June 2017. The plaintiffs sued GEO Group, which operates the facility, and several employees alleging battery, assault, negligent hiring, training and supervision, and violation of constitutional rights. In January 2020, the lawsuit was settled for an undisclosed amount.
