Violations at Cymric Oil Field

The California Department of Conservation’s Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) fined Chevron $2.7 million for numerous violations at the Cymric Oil Field in Kern County. The field had been the site of at least four “surface expressions”—water, steam, and oil forced to the surface—between May and July 2019 that covered almost an acre of a dry streambed and created “a significant threat of harm to human health and the environment."
