Air Pollution Violations at BP-Husky Toledo Refinery

BP Products North America paid $2.6 million in civil penalties to settle air pollution violations at its BP-Husky Toledo refinery in Lucas County, Ohio. BP also agreed to undertake a $1.2 million supplemental environmental project. According to a complaint filed by the federal and Ohio governments, the refinery violated the Clean Air Act, the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, and a 2001 consent decree by failing to properly operate and maintain continuous air pollution monitoring systems and by failing to immediately report releases of hazardous substances.
