Autonomy Corporation Audit Violations

The UK Financial Reporting Council (FRC) imposed sanctions against Deloitte and former Deloitte partners Richard Knights and Nigel Mercer for misconduct involving the audit of Autonomy Corporation Plc for the periods between January 2009 and June 2011. The FRC found that Deloitte, Knights, and to a lesser extent Mercer were culpable of “serious and serial failures.” The FRC fined Deloitte a £15 million ($19,532,242) and ordered it to pay £5,635,015 ($7,337,632) in costs. Knights was excluded from membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales for five years and fined £500,000 ($651,011). Mercer was fined £250,000 ($325,506).
