GE/Canon Business Process Services Data Breach Litigation

General Electric employees and former employees sued GE and Canon Business Process Services for exposing their personal information in a data breach. In March 2020, GE revealed that an unauthorized party gained access to an email account at the Canon subsidiary that contained a trove of sensitive personal data disclosed on benefits documents, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, bank account numbers, passport numbers, and dates of birth. The lawsuit alleges Canon and GE were negligent for failing to implement adequate and reasonable cyber-security procedures and protocols necessary to protect employees’ and former employees’ (and their beneficiaries’) personal information.
