Improper Billing on Navy Contracts

Charles Stark Draper Laboratory paid $3.5 million to settle allegations that it improperly overcharged the U.S. Navy for certain overhead costs on contracts. An audit of Draper’s fiscal year 2016 costs charged to the government found Draper improperly billed the government for costs associated with internal projects Draper called “opportunity investments” for which Draper lacked sufficient supporting documentation.
