Southern U.S. Border Wall Lawsuit
Fisher Sand & Gravel settled a lawsuit brought by the U.S. government over a 3.5-mile privately funded wall the company built on the U.S.-Mexico border in 2019. The government alleged that the steel bollard fence built on private land along the Rio Grande was showing signs of erosion and instability, and was in violation of a treaty with Mexico because of flood risks to the river flow. Under the settlement, Fisher agreed to properly maintain the structure for 15 years and address erosion issues. Fisher agreed to maintain a $3 million surety bond to cover the cost of repairs.
