Hawaii Average Wholesale Price Litigation
Dozens of drug manufacturers—including AstraZeneca—paid the state of Hawaii more than $82.7 million in settlements to resolve claims relating to the marketing and selling of prescription drugs and the manufacturers’ reporting of average wholesale prices. The state alleged that for more than a decade the companies had published inflated prices for prescription drugs, causing the overpayment of millions of dollars in drug costs. AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline, and Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation collectively paid a total of $10 million.
