Violation of Federal Safety Standards at Newport News Shipyard
Northrop Grumman Corp. paid a $5,000 fine for violating federal safety standards in the February 2008 death of an employee at its Newport News shipyard. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) found Northrop Grumman in violating for not providing a body harness for the employee, Kevin Batten, who died after falling off the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson while working on its ventilation system.
